Rotich and Getraide Named First Team All-Lone Star Conference
Eastern New Mexico track and field had four athletes selected as all-conference performers following last weekend’s LSC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships.
All four competitors selected for the all-conference teams were members of the women’s team after Eastern New Mexico finished in fifth place with 59 points at the meet on the women’s side of the competition. Senior Mercy Rotich was named First Team All-LSC after winning both the 3,000 and 5,000 meter races, securing 20 points throughout the meet.
Rotich’s time of 17:16.52 broke the all-time Lone Star Conference mark in the event as well as the Lone Star Conference Championship mark. The Eldorat, Kenya native ranks 17th in all of Division II with a time of 9:44.55 in the 3,000 meter race and 21st in all of NCAA Division II with a time of 17:02.88, which was recorded at the LSC Indoor Championships.
Junior Neri Getraide was also named First Team All-LSC after winning the 800 meter race, securing 11.25 points for the team score throughout the meet. Getraide posted a time of 2:16.65 to win the 800 meter final, a mark that was over five seconds faster than her sixth-place preliminary time of 2:21.12 on Friday afternoon.
Classmate Aminata Kenyawani was a Second Team All-LSC selection after finishing the meet with eight points after finishing in sixth place in the 3,000 meter race with a time of 10:35.04 and in fourth place in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 18:13.77. Junior Malethabo Seema rounded out the four Hounds on the all-conference list with a Third Team All-LSC selection following a third place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:17.20.
Getraide and Seema also scored points for the team total in the 4×400 meter relay finals alongside junior Caroline Bachman and sophomore Maijah Mathis, finishing in fourth place with a time of 3:58.37.
Senior Ivar Moinat and Bachman were each named to the All-LSC Academic Team for their performance in the classroom throughout the season. Bachman was also named to the All-LSC Academic Team last season while Moinat was a 2019 USTFCCCA Academic All-American.
Moinat currently ranks fourth in all of NCAA Division II with a time of 1:50.8 in the 800 meter race and has joined Rotich as the two lone Greyhounds with a chance to qualify for the 2020 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in Birmingham, Ala. On Mar. 13-14.
