Rosemary Shackleford was born Sept. 25, 1930 in Dora to the home of Maude and Lee Lanham Richards, and died Feb. 28, 2017 in Lubbock, TX. Rosemary grew up in Dora, and graduated from high school in 1948. After graduating, she became the school secretary, and while working there, she met Bo Shackleford. They were married Sept. 15, 1951. She was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom to her son and daughter until 1969, when she became the Deputy County Clerk under Nelda Hayhurst. In 1972, she ran for the office, and served until 1976. In 1977, Rosemary went to work at Graham Abstract where she did land title research for oil drillers. In 1990, she returned to the courthouse to work as Deputy under Joyce Lee Fraze. She finally retired in 1993 to stay at home and take care of Bo.
Rosemary was a wonderful seamstress, and sewed many of her daughter’s clothes. In 2014, her entries of Barbie and Ken doll clothes and her Indian dolls won first place in the Lubbock State Fair. She also crocheted many afghans. Rosemary and Bo were both active in the Dora Senior Citizens, and enjoyed painting with the group each week for several years. They were chosen in 2009 as the Roosevelt County Pioneers of the Year. She was a lifelong member of the Dora Church of Christ. In order to be closer to their daughter and their doctors, she and Bo had moved to Raider Ranch in Lubbock in 2011.
She is survived by her son, Howard Lee Shackleford of Fort Collins, CO; her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Bob Shattuck of Lubbock, TX; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Lee Richards and Paul and Berniece Richards of Carlsbad, NM; and a sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Bill Prater of Dora; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
