Portales:
The Portales Rams hosted St. Pius X (ABQ) on Friday night at Greyhound Stadium. St. Pius kicked off to Portales, with several hundred people watching. The teams seemed well matched from the first few plays. By the end of the first quarter, the teams were tied at 7-all after Elijah Kladiihbah (#7) scored for Portales and St, Pius answered with a score of their own. Shortly into the 2nd quarter, the Rams tacked on another touchdown with a 48-yard pass from #7 Kladiihbah to #6 Eric Ramirez. Unfortunately, the PAT was missed after, opening the door for a touchdown and extra point to put St. Pius in the lead. Portales held off the Sartans until late in the 2nd where they scored a touchdown and extra point, sending the teams into halftime 14-13 with St. Pius in the lead.
At the beginning of the 2nd half, St. Pius received the kickoff, but the Rams defense forced a punt and #8 Tommy Lopez set the Rams at a good field position. Then they quickly tacked on rushing touchdown by #7 Kladiihbah. The Sartans answered and took a 1-point lead again over Portales with a score of 21-20.
The 4th quarter was then uneventful, with both defenses holding strong. The game ended with Portales losing by that 1 point they missed early on in the game. The loss puts the Rams at 0-4 this season. Their next game is in Albuquerque on Saturday, September 25 at 1 PM against Rio Grande High School.
Elida:
The Tigers hosted Ramah for a non-conference game on Friday night. Kickoff was at 7 PM in Elida. It was quickly apparent that Ramah was going to be a tough opponent. Unfortunately for the Tigers, Ramah came in and defeated them 64-19. The loss moves Elida to 2-3 this season. Their next game is Friday, September 24 at 7 PM at home against Clovis Christian.
Floyd:
Floyd played at home against Clovis Christian on Saturday. The Eagles completely shutout the Broncos, leaving fans disappointed. The Eagles were tough to stop, and by halftime, the score was 39-0. The 2nd half added 14 more points. The final score was 53-0. The loss puts Floyd at 0-2 this season. They face Lake Arthur at an away game on October 1 at 7 PM.
