Counties Recognized for Audit Accountability
FY2019 Audit and Accountability Awards to Counties
SANTA FE, NM – New Mexico Counties and State Auditor Brian Colón selected Bernalillo, Chaves, Roosevelt, Taos, and Guadalupe Counties as recipients for the annual Audit and Accountability Awards presented at the NMC Legislative Conference Thursday, January 21, 2021. The awards are given in recognition to large, mid-size, and small counties for outstanding work on their audits, submitting timely audits, and sustaining excellence with the highest audit opinions. An unmodified opinion is the best opinion that can be given, and means that the financial statements are presented fairly by following generally accepted accounting principles. Curry, Doña Ana, Grant, Harding, Lea, Los Alamos, McKinley, Sandoval, and San Juan Counties received continued audit excellence and continued improvement county certificates.
The following counties received the FY2019 Audit & Accountability Awards:
Large County Award
Bernalillo County – Second time recipient; received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for an incredible 19 consecutive years for excellence in financial programming.
Mid-Size County Award
Chaves County – Fourth time recipient; won the certificate of excellence award for FY 2018; previously received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for 5 consecutive years for excellence in financial programming.
Roosevelt County – Third time recipient; won most improved for FY 2016

Taos County – Second time recipient
Small County Award
Guadalupe County – Fourth time recipient
The following counties received the FY2019 Continued Excellence and Continued Improvement County Certificates in recognition of continued audit achievement and financial management excellence:

Doña Ana County – Fifth time recipient
Lea County – Third time recipient
Los Alamos County – Fifth time recipient; also received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for 28 consecutive years for excellence in financial programming.
McKinley County –Third time recipient
Sandoval County – First time recipient
San Juan County – Fifth time recipient; also received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for 14 consecutive years for excellence in financial programming.
