PORTALES NM – Roosevelt County is mourning the loss of County Clerk Stephanie Hicks McMath, who was found deceased in her home late Sunday evening.

“Stephanie has been such an amazing and gifted public servant for our County and the State,” said Roosevelt County Manager Amber Hamilton. “She was committed in her leadership role as she knew the job and was always willing to learn. She is simply irreplaceable, and has been called Home much too soon.”

Hicks McMath and her team have been working diligently to prepared for the upcoming general election. The Clerk’s Office is equipped and prepared to complete the election process. Hamilton noted several counties throughout the state including Curry and Bernalillo have offered to assist Roosevelt County in any way needed.

“She taught me to cherish life. Not my own life, but the life of those around me who loved me,” shared her husband Gene McMath. “She cherished me.  She was the same at her job as the County Clerk. She cherished people. Voting ballots to her were precious, because they represented people. It did not matter to her if the name had a “D” or an “R” beside it because it represented a person. She cherished people. Portales, Roosevelt County,  New Mexico, and I lost a miracle. A person who cherished. She was my miracle.”

Services are pending as more details will be included within the obituary.
