Roosevelt County Finds Success at District 4-H Contest
Portales, NM: Novice and junior level participants apart of Roosevelt County 4-H were successful at the South Eastern District 4-H Contest. Roosevelt County had four teams and seven individuals place first at the contests hosted, this year, by Lincoln County in Capitan.
Shotgun– Roosevelt County 4-H was the team winner of the Junior Shotgun contest behind the individual winner, Ryon Howell. Howell’s teammates were Tresten Wolf, Levi Victor and Jacob Griffee.
Entomology– Cody Webster of Roosevelt County was the individual winner of the Junior Entomology contest.
Wildlife– Roosevelt County Team #1 received fourth place in the Novice Wildlife contest. Members of the team were McKennon Stephenson, Eric Michael, Nealeigh Burrow and Anna Evanick.
In the Junior Wildlife contest, Roosevelt County #1 was the team winner behind individual winner, Ryon Howell. His teammates were Tresten Wolf, Levi Victor (4), Jacob Griffee Roosevelt County #2 follwed them closely in second place. Team #2 consisted on Cody Webster, Kyleigh Stephenson (3), Cole Kircher (2) and Seth Smith.
Horticulture– The Roosevelt County Horticulture team earned second place. The team consisted of Kyleigh Stephenson, Savannah Bricker, Eric Michael (4) and Nealeigh Burrow.
Favorite Foods– Madison Strange from Roosevelt County won the Novice Favorite Foods contest. In the Junior contest, Roosevelt County’s Savannah Bricker received fifth.
Livestock– Roosevelt County’s Novice team (Nealeigh Burrow (2), Tresten Wolf, Raegen Whitacre) and Junior team (Cole Kircher, Levi Victor, Kyleigh Stephenson, Ryon Howell) in the Livestock Judging contest each received fourth place.
Livestock Skill-a-Thon– Roosevelt County Team #1 won the Novice Livestock Skill-a-thon contest followed by Roosevelt County Team #2 in fourth place. Team #1 consisted of Nealeigh Burrow (2), Tresten Wolf (5), Eric Michael and McKennon Stephenson. Team #2 consisted of Brandon Webster, Raegan Whitacre, Blake Michael and Cameron Michael.
Roosevelt County Team #1 received second in Junior Livestock Skill-a-Thon and consisted of Cole Kircher (5), Seth Smith, Levi Victor and Ryan Howell. Team #2 won forth place behind individual winner, Kyleigh Stephenson. Her teammates were Hayden Wolf and Cody Webster.
Meats- Roosevelt County’s Meats Evaluation team received third place and consisted of Nealeigh Burrow (4), Eric Michael and Carson Kircher.
Poetry– Novice Tresten Wolf and Junior Cole Kircher of Roosevelt County both received first place in the poetry reciting contest.
Judging contests in the 4-H allow for youth members to compete with others across the state in their knowledge of different subjects and to develop communication and critical thinking skills they can use in everyday life.
