Roosevelt County Commission

The following are highlights from the Roosevelt County Commission meeting Tuesday morning in the county courthouse:

  • Commissioners approved 22 indigent health care claims at $11,182 for detention center detainees.
  • County Road Department Superintendent Ricky Lovato reported that appointments with road viewers have been set to look at South Roosevelt Roads 39, 10, AM and AO for possible closure.
  • Commissioners approved a 5.4 acre subdivision on a 86.54-acre piece of land on South Roosevelt Road T and New Mexico 236.
  • Commissioners approved an addition position for the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office for a transport/court monitor officer.

In other county news:

  • Roosevelt County, in conjunction with the city of Portales, will be beginning a road project on South Roosevelt Road Q ½ in the near future to close a half mile portion of the road from South Roosevelt Road 6 ½ and 7. The project is intended to prevent vehicle accidents in the deep ditch in the middle of the road. Gates and barricades will be put into place on the half mile of road. Officials said a public forum will be announced in future to talk to residents about traffic flow on the road.
  • The County Road Department will be opening a full-time and a part-time position for equipment operator and laborer.
