Chamber Members:
Last week, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued a “stay-at-home” order to New Mexico citizens and ordered all businesses not listed as an essential service closed effective through April 10. This is continuing today but is likely to be extended, possibly through April or longer.
In addition, gatherings of more than five are prohibited now. A long list of businesses are listed as essential so please check that full list. Stores selling groceries and agricultural-related operations as well as transportation and logistics businesses are included in the exceptions. Restaurants, wineries and breweries are still able to operate but for drive-thru, takeout or delivery only. Most of our restaurant members are open under these restrictions but a few are closed.
I continue to be involved in meetings with state officials and even cabinet members. To gain insight and provide input on what these radical disruptions will do to our state’s businesses. I will continue to compile and distribute to you resources available to weather this major hit to business. We’ll continue adding those news items in our “news” tab and in addition we have multiple links to business resources on our home page at https://www.portales.com
It’s important that we all do our part by following these orders so that we can keep everyone healthy without overwhelming our health care system. If you have questions or ideas on how to help our businesses weather through this storm please contact me directly on my cell phone, (575) 309-7541 as our offices will be closed as well. In addition Chamber-related events and meetings in April have been cancelled or moved online.
