Portales, NM – Roosevelt County received notification of a grant award of $12,025 for the FY25 cycle of the New Mexico Tourism Department’s Clean and Beautiful grant program. Special Projects Coordinator Carla Weems compiled and submitted the grant for a total funding request of $36,440 to beautify the Roosevelt County Courthouse with turf replacing the small grass areas. This grant application focuses on maximizing sustainable landscape and the removal of the existing irrigation system to further promote water conservation and more fully embrace xeriscaping. The Courthouse is at the heart of downtown and often the site of numerous outdoor events and activities.
Per the notification letter from the NM Tourism Dept., “After careful assessment, the NMTD Tourism Development Division is delighted to announce that, the County of Roosevelt has been selected to receive a grant award of $12,025 to aide in completing designated initiatives outlined in your FY25 grant application. “We are thrilled to be able to beatify downtown with this year-round green space at the Courthouse,” added Weems. “ This further illustrates the County’s commitment to supporting water conservation efforts in an out-of-the-box concept as I was told this is the first turf project requested through this program.”
