Ronnie Birdsong Obituary

It is with deep sadness that I relay the passing of Mrs. Ronnie Birdsong.  Mrs Birdsong came to ENMU in September 2001 as Vice President for University Relations and Enrollment Services after serving as the executive assistant to the president at Southern Arkansas University.  Having grown up in West Texas, the transition to New Mexico was seamless.  Her duties as vice president covered a broad range of responsibility, including the oversight of Information Technology, KENW, Admissions, Advising and the Registrar’s Office.

In January of 2016, Mrs. Birdsong transitioned into the position of Special Assistant to the President, for Dr. Steven Gamble.  She was an active member of the Portales community and was recognized for her service at the Roosevelt Chamber of Commerce, winning the Warm Heart of the Sunbelt Award for her hard work and many contributions to the community.  Mrs. Birdsong was instrumental in bringing back the greyhound mascots, and spearheaded numerous initiatives to promote student success.

Mrs Birdsong spent the past several years working alongside Dr. Gamble to promote the General Obligations Bond election to provide funding for capital improvements on the ENMU campus.  She will be remembered as a woman of distinction and advocate for students.

Services are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Please join us in extending our deepest condolences to the Birdsong family.

Mrs. Birdsong is survived by her husband, Jon, son Michael Hutcherson and daughter Ronda Stockmyer, son, Jon and mother Evelyn Trice.
