Obituary

Graveside services for Robert L.Cole 76  will be July 23 2022 at 10am at the Portales Cemetery with Rev Mark Mcafee officiating. All of his grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

 

Robert Lester Cole, known to family and friends as “Bobby”,was born Sept. 22, 1945, in Ripplemead, Virginia to the home of Loretta Christine (Thompson) and Joseph James Cole, Jr.

He passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus while surrounded by family and friends the evening of June 26, 2022 in Lubbock,Texas. As a teenager, he and his brother, Joe, came to New Mexico where their older brother JD and his family were living. He went to school at Portales High School. In September of 1964 he enlisted in the Army National Guard. In October of 1967, he married Nelda L.Latta and they had three children Tammy Jeffrey and Stacey.  During his working life he worked for different trucking firms including Associated Milk Producers where he was the Terminal Manager. Later he enjoyed driving his Peterbilt for RAC in Clovis, and retired in 2014.

 

Mr. Cole enjoyed the simple things of life. For instance, shooting guns, playing pool, and fishing. Hunting with his son at the river; going to the mountains, especially around Capitan, NM; going to watch his son play football; reading and watching westerns; and taking his grandchildren for ice cream after school; riding motorcycles with his brother and nephew. He also enjoyed sitting on his front porch and watching the traffic, especially on rainy days; and playing cards and gambling.

 

Bobby is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Piper Cole of Rockwall, TX; two daughters, Tammy Williams of Clovis and Stacey Rowland of Portales; nine grandchildren, D’Leigha and Kaitlin Williams, Cole, Kenzee and Keilee Rowland and Hadley, Brenner, Bohdan and Maris Cole; one great-grandchild, J’Leigh Stansberry one brother, JD.(Jim) Cole of Clovis; and two sisters, Phyllis Randford of Ripplemead, VA and Betsy Pollard of Hangerstwon, MD and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both his parents, his brother, Joe and his beloved wife Nelda who passed away February 23, 2017
