Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced that on February 15, 2023, Beatrice Rivera, age 55, of Clovis, was convicted of Accessory to 2nd Degree Murder.
On October 10, 2021, Officers with the Clovis Police Department responded to 125 El Camino in reference to a gunshot victim. Ivan Luevano, of Clovis, was found to have been shot multiple times and later succumbed to his injuries after being transported to PRMC.
An investigation by the Major Crimes Unit found that Beatrice Rivera learned that Mr. Luevano was selling marijuana out of his residence and was in possession of a large amount of marijuana and cash. Rivera contacted a relative in Lubbock and they made plans to steal the marijuana and cash. After Beatrice Rivera directed them to the Luevano’s residence she left the area and Valdez and Quintanilla went to Luevano’s residence to rob him. Once inside the Victim, Luevano, refused to hand over the money and drugs. A scuffle began and Luevano was shot 3-4 times. Quintanilla and Valdez fled back to Lubbock with the marijuana and small amount of cash. Quintanilla was later arrested in Lubbock and Valdez was arrested in Oklahoma.
Although, Ms. Rivera was not present during the shooting, she was charged as an accessory to the murder for directing them to the Victims residence.
The Honorable Judge Tatum presided over the plea hearing and sentenced Rivera to 12 years in the Department of Corrections. She will have to serve 85% of the sentence and will not be eligible for parole until 2032.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney, Brett Carter and Senior Trial Attorney, Leah Hutchins, and Rivera was represented by Criminal Defense Attorney, Sandy Gallagher, of Clovis.
