Update: The Rio Grande fire is estimated at 150 acres and is zero percent contained. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire was discovered at 3:53 p.m. on Thursday, April 17 on Bureau of Indian Affairs jurisdiction, west of Bosque Farms, in Valencia County. Under fast-moving winds and Red Flag conditions, the fire moved from the west side of the Rio Grande to the east side and into the Bosque Farms area. Response crews arrived on scene to find the fire already intermixed with structures. Fire is currently running and spotting.
Weather: Currently 77 degrees, 7% RH, winds at 30 mph with gusts to 51 mph. Tonight, patchy blowing dust before 9pm; lows around 42. Southwest wind 15-25 mph decreasing to 5-15 mph after midnight. Gusts could reach 35 mph.
Evacuations / Closures: Evacuations are occurring in Bosque Farms west of W Bosque Loop between Lillie and Cottonwood Dr.
