Obituary

A memorial service for Rhonda Yates, 60, of Portales will be held at 10:00 AM, Tues., June 14, 2022 at the Dora Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Pritchett and Rev. Wesley McAfee officiating.

Rhonda Owen Yates was born Mar. 15, 1962, in Gainesville, TX to Robbie Owen (Raul’s) and Bernie Sansing, and died June 3, 2022 in Amarillo, TX.  Rhonda attended school in Farmington.  She made her home in Farmington until 1989 when she moved to Portales.  Rhonda was a Certified Nursing Aide at Heartland Continuing Care Center for 27 years.  In 2016, she began working at Genesis Health Care and Rehab in Clovis.  Her health caused her to stop working in December of 2021.

Rhonda was a devoted mom and grandmother.  She really enjoyed going to the lake where she swam and watched the others inner tubing and playing.  Watching her children and later her grandchildren participate in sports, and just spending time with her family were the highlight of her life.  She always wanted to have a pretty yard, and liked to grow plants and flowers.  Her family savored her good cooking.  Among their favorites were such things as potato salad, chicken fried steak, and fried chicken.  She often attended church with her daughter’s family at the Dora Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jody and Brian Paden, Ashley and John Pritchett and Amber and Justin Norman all of Portales; eleven grandchildren, Justin Paden, Kylie Paden, Audrey Paden, Ryan Paden, Teagan Norman, Taten Norman, Tinzlee Norman, Taythe Norman, Aiden Yates, Addison Yates and Kaelyn Pritchett; a brother, Ed Sansing of Farmington, NM; three sisters, Denise Henson of Farmington, NM, Vicki Tucker of GA and Meredith Hoyer of Ormond Beach, FL.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Robbie and Bernie Sansing and also her step-mother, Alice Sansing as well as two brothers, Billy Tucker and Terry Bouska.
