Hello, Fellow Patriots and Republicans,

We have some news we would like to share right away along with our invitation to please join us for our last general meeting of the year!  It will be in celebration of Christmas with food, fellowship, and festivities!  Representative Reeb is also going to be in attendance to share with us what kind of legislation may be coming during the next session.  Gun control laws and more are a potential threat at the Roundhouse in 2024.

Also . . .
Mike Miller has been elected and appointed by the current city council to serve as mayor for the remainder of Mayor Jackson’s term which is up in 2026.  Mayor Jackson is resigning for health reasons.  The final vote was 7-1 with Councilor Boan being the lone dissenting vote.  Mike Davidson was nominated by Councilor Boan to serve as mayor as well.  Preston Elkins had also submitted a letter of interest to the city council. That leaves an opening in Ward C.  The city council will need to appoint a Portales resident from that ward to complete the remainder of Mr. Miller’s term which is up in 2026 as well.   Residents in Ward C have been encouraged by the council to submit letters of interest to Sarah Austin, City Manager.

One other exciting update for Portales!   The city has reached an agreement with Safe Haven Baby Boxes, and a contract has been signed!  Portales is set to receive its Baby Box in just EIGHT WEEKS!  The installation plans have already been sent to the contractor, Bryce Harrison of Harrison Family Builders.

We hope to see you all at our Christmas Celebration meeting on Monday, December 18th at 6:30 pm at Creighton’s Meeting Room.
