Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced that on January 2, 2025, Jimmy Norwood, age 61, of Texas, pled guilty to DWI (.08 or above) – 8th or Subsequent Offense, and was sentenced to ten (10) years in the Department of Corrections.
On August 25, 2023, deputies with the Curry County Sheriff’s Office responded to State Road 108 and Curry Road 13 in reference to a single-vehicle crash. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jimmy Norwood. Deputies observed an open beer can and signs of impairment displayed by Norwood. Based on Norwood’s performance of Standard Field Sobriety Tests, deputies placed Norwood into custody and transported Norwood to give an alcohol breath test. Norwood’s breath test registered above the legal limit.
On January 2, 2025, Judge Benjamin S. Cross sentenced Norwood to ten (10) years in the Department of Corrections. Once Norwood has completed his sentence, he will be released on two (2) years of parole.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney, Anthony Jaimes, and Norwood was represented by Criminal Defense Attorney, Angelina Baca of Clovis. The Honorable Benjamin S. Cross presided over the hearing.
