Rebecca Villanueva Obituary
The Rosary for Rebecca C. Villanueva, 90, of Portales, will be recited at 9:00 AM, Mon., Oct. 14, 2024 at St. Helen Catholic Church. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, by Fr. Franklin Iwuagwu. Bural will be in the Portales Cemetery with Richard Garcia, Jr., Fernando Garcia, Emilio Baca, Elias Baca, Jason Freeman, Eddie Romero III, and Ashton Romero serving as pallbearers.
Rebecca Villanueva was born Feb. 22, 1934 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Deluvina (Padilla) and Luis Chavez and died early on Wed. morning, Oct. 9, 2024 in Amarillo, TX. Following the death of both of her parents, she and her siblings came to make their home in Clovis with their uncle in 1949. At first they all worked together on local farms. On Feb. 14, 1959, she was married to Moises Villanueva. For several years she was employed as a presser at Magic Steam Laundry in Clovis.
She enjoyed gardening, and loved to go camping and fishing. Her tortillas and red chili, along with potatoes and cheese were family favorites. Mrs. Villanueva was a devoted mother and grandmother and especially liked spending time with her grandchildren telling them stories about her years growing up, and hearing about their lives.
She is survived by two sons, Erminio Villanueva of Hobbs, and Patrick Villanueva of Portales; three daughters, Marcella and Richard Garcia of Clovis, Christine and Johnny Baca of Portales and Delores Villanueva and her fiancé, Marcos Aguilar of Clovis; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Arsenio Chavez of Clovis. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Villanueva was preceded in death by two brothers, Horacio and Eminio Chavez, two sisters, Arselia Harris and Pauline Garcia, a son, Chris Villanueva who died as an infant and two grandchildren, as well as Moises Villanueva, her husband of almost 58 years who died Jan. 16, 2017.
