The Rams took an early lead in the first, and by halfway through the quarter, they were up 14-7 over the Chargers. The second quarter went scoreless for a while, but Portales managed to sneak in a pass for a touchdown and successfully kicked the extra point, taking a 2-score lead over Albuquerque Academy 21-7.

The Chargers received the ball after halftime, but the Rams defense forced a quick turnover on downs, and got the ball back. #11 Zane Mayberry caught a pass for a touchdown shortly after, adding 6 more to the scoreboard, and the PAT was good. That set the momentum for the win for Portales, with a score of 28-7 over the Chargers.

Portales’ defense continued to hold Albuquerque to their one touchdown, and the Rams scored again in the 3rd with another excellent pass, making the score 35-7. Then in the 4th, Portales added one more passing touchdown, finishing the game at 42-7 over their first district opponent.

The Rams are 7-1 this season, and host Bernalillo High School on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 PM at Greyhound Stadium. Portales hosts Lovington the following Friday, and that ends their regular season. Be sure to get out and support your local team, and wear your red & black!
