The Artesia Bulldogs hosted Portales for a basketball game on April 16, 2021. Going into the game, Artesia was 4-3 and Portales was 1-3.
Tip off was at 7 PM and Portales won it. That’s when things began to stumble downhill. Artesia quickly got the ball from the Rams and scored a big 3-point shot. From there, Artesia dominated the first period.
Before the period got away from them, #12 Chanden Neece scored a free throw, adding the first point to the Rams’ scoreboard. Artesia was already up by 13 points at that point though. #3 Alex Garcia and Chanden Neece added a few more points to the score, but by the end of the first period, the score was 17-5 with Artesia taking a dominant lead.
In the 2nd period, Artesia continued to outscore. The Rams’ #10 Dason Davis and #14 Josiah Tellez added a few points, but at half, Portales was down 35-9.
In the 3rd period, the Rams’ got the ball first, but with the momentum stacked against them, they had a huge deficit to overcome. #24 Greydon Rigsby, as well as the other earlier scorers put in their best effort to overcome their deficit. And by the end of 3, Portales had added more points, but were still down by 26. The 3rd period ended with Artesia on top 51-25.
#20 Quadale Brown and #11 Elijah Kladiihbah joined Davis and Neece adding more points to the scoreboard. The Rams overcame a huge part of their deficit by the end of the game, but Artesia proved to be too difficult to defeat. The Bulldogs ended the game on top 56-42.
Portales is now 1-4 this season. Their next game is against Eunice on April 17 at 2:30 PM in Portales.
