Coaches Report by Candra Reynolds

Yesterday the girls golf team traveled to Roswell to play at the Spring River Golf Course.  Spring River is a very nice 18 hold golf course with many obstacles to overcome along the way.   The obstacles and challenges the girls faced yesterday was the water holes and then the mental ability to over come the adversities they faced throughout the day.  In the grand scheme of things….. the actual game is only a small portaion of what we gain from each tournament experience.  The game of golf has much more to do with endurance and perseverance.  Some of the girls were disappointed with their scores but I am proud to say that their attitudes and ability to over come these frustrations is wonderful to watch and experience.

As a team we came off the course with a 434.  The team score is a total of the best four scores of the day.  Janae Hale with 85, Kinzie Davis with 113,  Kaitlynne Underbrink with 118, and Kiki Helsley with 120.   Mattison Blakey struggled throughout the day but came off the course with a great attitude in spite of the day!  Janae’s 85 placed her in a four way tie for 4th. place.

Overall, the girls scores did not align with our goals for the day but the life lessons they walked off the course with are many they will never forget.  The experiences…many were good lessons and others not so good but all of the girls are worthy of a pat on the back and words of encouragement!!

“Golf requires players to self-analyze, practice, and accept encouragement and constructive critique from coaches and peers.  With both achievements and disappointmenst on the horizon, young players must learn to sustain a positive outlook, learn from their mistakes, and “shake it off” when they fall short so that past faults do no affect current performance or future results.

I encourage parents to get your family and children involved in golf.  Golf teaches integrity, honesty, responsibility and it has many social benefits.  I recommend reading this article:https://blastmotion.com/blog/kids-playing-golf/

Our next tournament is Thursday at Lovington.  Next week we travel to the Spring Classic in Roswell.  The Spring Classic Tournament is a two day tournament: one day at Spring River and one day at NMMI Golf Course.  Go Rams!
