On Tuesday, April 6, 2021 the Portales Rams hosted New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) in their first basketball game of the season. Tip-off was at 7 PM in Portales and was followed by a low-scoring 1st period for both teams.
At the end of the 1st period, the score was 10-6 with NMMI in the lead. Unfortunately for the Rams, the 2nd period was a struggle. NMMI scored 16 points and held Portales to just 7. So, teams went into halftime with NMMI on top 26-13.
The Rams came out in the 3rd period and out-scored NMMI, closing the scoring gap to 38-32. The 4th was successful for the Rams also, and managed to create a tie, sending the two teams into overtime with a score of 43 all. Unfortunately, the overtime buzzer went off before the Rams could take the lead.
NMMI won in overtime with a final score of 49-47, handing Portales their first loss this season. They are 0-1. Their next game is Thursday, April 8 at 7 PM in Texico against the Wolverines.
