The Portales Rams hosted Goddard High Rockets out of Roswell on April 13 for a district basketball game. Tip off was at 7 PM and from the start, the game was back and forth.
Goddard won the tip off and scored first on an early foul, adding 2 points to the scoreboard off a free throw. Portales quickly followed with a 2-point shot by #24 Greydon Rigsby. By the end of the 1st quarter, the teams were tied 12-12.
Goddard started the 2nd half strong, adding 4 points quickly, and despite Portales’ best effort to get ahead, the Rockets stayed on top. At halftime, the score was 26-20 with Portales trailing.
The second half was a struggle for the Rams. Goddard came out, quickly scoring 10 unanswered points. The Rams finally got a few buckets, but the momentum swung towards the Rockets. Goddard took a dominating lead, and Portales couldn’t overcome their deficit.
Goddard won with a dominating lead with a final score of 54-36. The loss for the Rams adds to their struggling season. They are now 1-3 going into their next game, scheduled for Friday, April 16 in Artesia at 7 PM.
