On Friday, October 18, 2019 the Portales Rams hosted Ruidoso for a game at 7pm. The matchup kicked off Portales’ district play this season, and with a dominating performance yet again, the Rams added another win to their record this season.
Portales received the ball first, and was forced to punt, but with an interception by the Rams’ #4 Killette shortly after, they took possession again. The Rams capitalized on the turnover and scored the first touchdown of the game by Hagan Rains (#8). A long pass to Jalen Allen (#11) added another 6 to the score, and by halftime, Portales was winning 13-0.
Ruidoso came out after halftime and added their first points with a touchdown, but was soon answered with a Rams 55 yard rushing touchdown by Romeon Gbassagee (#23). The defense then continued to make big plays to prevent Ruidoso from moving far, and forced turnovers. Portales’ Blidi (#62) even blocked a punt that Gbassagee was able to return to Ruidoso’s 7 yard line, which set Quarterback Hagan Rains up to add another touchdown. At the end of the 3rd quarter, Portales was still up with a score of 26-7.
The 4th quarter brought a rushing touchdown for Ruidoso, and was met with no answered points, but Portales managed to stay on top. The game ended with a final score of 26-14 and Portales is now 7-1 this season and 1-0 in district. The Rams face Moriarty on the road on October 25 at 7pm, and then their final game of the regular season against Lovington at home on November 1.
