The Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce announced the entertainment lineup for the 2016 Peanut Valley Festival today with a variety of singers, bands and dancers on tap.
“The big news is the addition of the Roswell Ballet Folklorico group this year,” said Roosevelt County Chamber Executive Director Karl Terry. “We’ve been trying for several years to have a ballet folkorico group at Peanut Festival and finally we were able to work it out.”
The group will be a part of a great Sunday afternoon lineup with the dancers on the slab immediately after the kids Peanut Olympics at 2:15 p.m. The dancers will go through several changes of colorful costumes during the performance and give the audience a look at Hispanic culture and tradition.
The Peanut Festival also welcomes back Andy Mason, who will perform a variety of original and cover music including some tunes for the kids as they get ready to participate in the Peanut Olympics put on by the Portales High School Cheerleaders. Mason takes the stage at 12:30 and the Peanut Olympics begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Kids age 5-10 can enter the Peanut Olympics with no entry fee and compete for fun prizes and awards. Just meet the cheerleaders on the slab by 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
Solo performer Colton Hardy will be on stage both days as will the Fusion World Dancers. From 4-6 p.m. on Saturday the band Slick Reynolds will make its debut on the Peanut Festival stage. The group is popular in eastern New Mexico for its rock ‘n’ roll cover songs.
The Blackwater Band, veterans of the Peanut Festival stage will end the show from 3-5 p.m. Sunday with a mixture of country, rock and maybe even some Spanish music.
Sponsors of this year’s event who make the entertainment possible are Hampton Farms, Yucca, Doerr & Knudson, New Mexico Peanut Growers Assn., Alta Terra, First Financial Credit Union and Xcel Energy.
Admission is free and parking is available on the west side off Boston Ave. as well as the south side of the fairgrounds off Lime Street. Handicap parking is available inside the grounds with placard displayed. For more information contact the Chamber at (575) 356-8541.
