PORTALES, NM – The Eastern New Mexico University men’s basketball team signed Devin Pullum on Wednesday in part of National Signing Day. The guard joins the Greyhounds after playing for the father of ENMU head coach, Tres Segler, at Little Elm High School in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
“A guy like Devin is special,” ENMU Head Coach Tres Segler said. “What Devin brings to us as a Greyhound moving forward is the four-year cornerstone that can link these classes of transfers. You have some guys coming in for one or two years, Devin offers us stability. We expect him to come in and help us right away. While the league is built on transfers, I’m very proud to have a four-year presence from a guy like Devin. He has unbelievable character and is an unbelievable student. He’s going to be a guy that fires on all cylinders when it comes to what we’re trying to do here.”
“It was an outstanding experience for both of us,” Pullum’s father, Carlos, said. “We’re so happy for him. Coach Segler and the guys were just like family. That’s really what drove him to make that choice. It’s an unbelievable opportunity for him and we look forward to him being part of the Greyhound family.”
“When they got back, both of their faces were lit up,” Pullum’s mother, Radiah, added. “They were so excited with the guys and how welcoming everyone at ENMU was.”
At Little Elm High School, Pullum was a First-Team All-State selection during his senior campaign. Additionally, the guard led the Lobos to a 29-5 record, including a 14-0 mark and Co-MVP of District 14-5A. Pullum received a number of postseason accolades, earning a spot on the TABC and NTBCA All-Star teams.
“He’s been in my program for six years from junior high up through high school,” Rusty Segler, Pullum’s high school coach said. “He’s become the most improved player, not just skill-wise, but leadership-wise as well. He’s gone through the roof with those attributes and I think his leadership surpasses everything. I’m excited and thrilled that he’s signing with the other Coach Segler. He’s getting a young man that is mature beyond his years.”
The Greyhounds return six players from last season’s 13-15 squad. Head Coach Tres Segler led the Green and Silver to the most Lone Star Conference wins as a first-year head coach during the 2016-17 campaign. Additionally, Segler’s Hounds had the third-most wins under a first-year head coach.
