On April 15, 2021, MFA transitioned its COVID-19 Housing Cost Assistance Program to the Homeowner Assistance Program. This program is available to eligible homeowners who need help making their mortgage and real estate contract payments because of a COVID-19-related financial hardship. As an MFA partner, we are asking that you help us get the word out about this crucial assistance.

The COVID-19 Homeowner Assistance Program serves New Mexico households earning 80 percent or less of the median income for their area and households of all incomes on tribal lands. A complete list of income limits can be found here. Applicants must certify that they have had a financial hardship related to the COVID-19 health crisis.

MFA will make payments directly to servicers, escrow companies and other housing providers on behalf of eligible applicants to cover mortgage and real estate contract payments. Recipients can expect as much as $1,500 per month for up to three consecutive months to be applied to their accounts. The assistance does not need to be repaid.

Electronic application live on MFA’s website at housingnm.org.

Complete program details and factsheets in English and Spanish can also be found on MFA’s website. Paper applications may be requested by calling 505.308.4206 or 866.488.0498.
