The Portales Rams made it to the first round of the state tournament, where they faced Goddard, on the road in Roswell. Goddard went into the tournament as seed 6, while Portales was seed 11.

Portales faced a tough challenge in an opponent like Goddard, and after a very close, back and forth game, the Rams were handed a loss.

At the half, Portales went into the locker room with a slight lead of 16-13. Goddard managed to outscore the Rams 8-2 in the 3rd, and even though Portales outscored the Rockets by 1 in the 4th, the game ended in a final score of 31-29 in Goddard’s favor.

It was a close match, and Portales held their own. Goddard was just able to pull out the win over the Rams, sending Portales home with a season ending loss.

The boys finish their season with a 16-12 record, and were 3-3 in district.
