This week’s pet of the week will be one of our dogs named Major. We also have a lot of new kittens as well if there is anyone looking for some super cute feline friends.

Major is a 1 year old, male Blue Heeler/Doberman pinscher mix. He is very shy and timid and will need a quiet home with older children and someone who would be willing to give him the time and training he needs. He likes to walk up to you and sniff your hand and occasionally he will let you scratch his chin when he feels he is safe with you. Major will need time to learn what love and attention is, as he seems to not be used to human interaction. He will grow into an amazing and loveable friend with the right home.

Thank you,

Katherine Johnson

The Portales Police Department provides full-service animal control to all residents within the Portales city limits. Animal Control Officers attend state certification classes and are trained to handle calls for service that involve domestic animals or wildlife. The Division provides patrol service six days per week and may be called out after hours in case of an emergency.

All dogs and cats kept within the city limits must get a Portales city license. This license can be picked up at the Animal Shelter. Owners should bring proof of vaccination for their pet(s). The license costs $5.00 per year. In addition to the individual animal registration, Animal Control is responsible for issuing Domestic Livestock, Residential Multi-Animal and Commercial Permits.
