The Portales Lady Rams took home the district championship title after winning a hard fought game last night. The Lady Rams went undefeated throughout district play, but the championship game against Lovington proved to be their greatest test. Both teams battled for all 32 minutes of play, with the Lady Rams often trailing.
The Rams finally took a 2 point lead in the final seconds of the game, but Lovington quickly answered to tie it up again. Portales found themselves with just 8 seconds to drive down and try to get a shot off. The ball was put in the hands of senior shooting guard Myleigh Banda, who took a few dribbles and then pulled up from well beyond the 3 point arc. The Portales crowd erupted in cheers as they witnessed the shot swish through the net with no time left on the clock.
Next up, the Portales Lady Rams will compete in the NMAA state championship, with the first round on March 7th and then continuing March 11-14. The 2025 Nusenda Credit Union State Basketball Championships Seeding & Selection Show can be watched this Sunday at approximately 5 pm on the NMAA website nmact.org
