The Portales Rams hosted St. Pius X High School on Friday, September 20 for a football game at Greyhound Stadium.

The Rams went into the game 3-1, with hundreds of fans in attendance. The weather was calm and the players were pumped to get the game going.

Portales received the ball first, and after a long drive down the field the Rams tacked on the first touchdown of the game. On St. Pius’ next drive, Portales’ Jalen Allen (#11) caught an interception and returned it for a touchdown.

The Rams kicked off to St. Pius and then quickly forced a 3 and out. When Portales received the ball back, Romeo Gbassagee (#23) rushed for another Rams Touchdown.

The momentum swung in Portales’ favor, and after another quick turnover on downs for a seemingly defeated St. Pius offense, the Rams tacked on another score when Kellan Hightower (#3) rushed past the pylons to add 6 more to the scoreboard.

By halftime, the Rams were up 28-0. The teams returned to the field for a scoreless 3rd quarter.

The 4th brought points for both teams however, and Portales was the first to cross the goal-line.

St. Pius did manage to score 7 in the 4th, but Portales dominated the game so much that there was no coming back from the deficit. With yet another touchdown for the Rams, they sealed the coffin of St. Pius X and sent them home with a loss.

The final score was 40-7 and Portales is now 4-1 this season as they set their sights on the upcoming district games ahead.
