Portales boys golf played at the Links Golf Course in Ruidoso on a cold and windy Friday. The team shot a 337 qualifying our second of three legs to be eligible for the state tournament in May. The team finished second out of six overall and was first in A-4A classification. Senior Thomas Tulk led the way with an 81 followed by senior Andrew Underbrink shooting an 84 on the day. Junior Austin Davis finished third in team scoring with an 85 and senior Mario Cordova finished out the team score with an 87. Sophomore Talon Payne shot a 90 to round out the five scores.

The boys played really well over the two days. It is a difficult task to walk 18 holes and play golf in 35+ mph winds. We drove back from Roswell after a windy round of golf only to turn around 12 hours later and head back to Ruidoso. It was a rough two day road trip, but the boys did great and never quit. We look forward to improving over the next several weeks, getting out third leg for state, and making a run at a blue trophy.
