Friday night lights finally came home to Portales for the first time in the 2019 season. The Rams hosted West Las Vegas High School on Friday, Sept. 6. Kickoff was at 7 P.M. as a crowd of hundreds watched.

Within a few short plays, Portales managed to force a punt by West Las Vegas. Defensive End, Romeo Gbassagee (#23) blocked the punt, giving the Rams great field position as they took possession of the ball for the first time at home this season.

Baylor Diaz (#15) took advantage of his teammates great defensive play and added the first points to the scoreboard with a rushing touchdown for Portales. The blocked punt and score for the Rams set the momentum early on, and it continued to roll in their favor.

West Las Vegas did take advantage of their following possession, adding 7 to the scoreboard for them, however the Rams managed to shut down their offense for the remainder of the game. West Las Vegas was unable to score again.

Romeo Gbassagee, Baylor Diaz, and Dason Davis (#6) continued scoring points between rushing and passing, and by halftime, Portales was up 33-7.

The Rams continued to show dominance over West Las Vegas in the 2nd half, but both teams had a no-score 3rd quarter.

As the clock began ticking down in the 4th however, Portales kicked back into gear and added another 13 points, while holding West Las Vegas to 3-and-out possession after possession.

The final score was 46-7.

The Portales Rams added another win to their record, which is now 3-0 this season. They’re starting out strong as they prepare for tougher competition as the season continues. They face Goddard at home next Friday, Sept 13 at 7 pm.
