The Portales Rams traveled to Albuquerque to face Hope Christian Huskies as the opener to the 2019 Football season on Saturday, August 24.
Kickoff was at 1 P.M. under the heat of the late August sun with Hope Christian taking possession first. It wasn’t long before the Rams scored first however with a bullet of pass to receiver Jalen Allen (#11). The 52 yard pass set the momentum in Portales’ favor.
The Rams held Hope Christian to only a field goal in the first quarter, then scored an unmatched 8 points over the Huskies in the 2nd. The teams went into the locker rooms at halftime with a score of 14-3 with Portales in the lead.
The second half brought an unmatched score of 8-0 points for Portales, but the Huskies rallied in the 4th and added 10 points to their score in a last minute attempt to catch up.
The Rams ended up finishing on top, with a final score of 22-13. The win starts Portales’ season with a 1-0 record as they face St. Michael’s on Aug. 31 at 1:30 P.M. on the road.
