PORTALES, N.M. – Lone Star Conference (LSC) play starts tomorrow for the Eastern New Mexico Women’s Soccer program when they welcome Midwestern State at home on Wednesday, Sept. 14, with kickoff set at 5 p.m. The Hounds continue its LSC schedule on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they head to St. Edward’s.

LAST TIME OUT

The Greyhounds come into Wednesday’s contest off the back of two losses, having been beaten 2-0 against Fort Lewis and 1-0 versus Metropolitan State University-Denver. Samantha Jeffries was busy in both games, making eight stops versus the Skyhawks and seven saves against Roadrunners.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

Overall, this season, the Greyhounds have scored three goals, averaging 4.2 shots per game, with 61% of those shots going on goal. Defensively, Eastern are allowing just .800 goals per game, with opponents scoring on just 5.6% of their shots. In net, the Greyhounds have made 34 saves this season, with an 89.5% save percentage.

Individually, Tori GalindoKelsey Medina, and Abby Ditzler have all scored one goal this season for ENMU. Hannah Grady paces the team in shots with four, while Medina and Ditzler both have three shots this season. Kinsie Mitchell and Selena Casias have both played every minute this season, the only outfield players to play every minute for ENMU. Jeffries has contributed 34 saves so far this season, allowing just four goals in the opening five games. The shot stopper holds a 89.5% save percentage.

Jeffries sits atop the LSC statistical standings in most goalie statistics. Jeffries leads the conference in saves per game at 6.80 saves per game and saves with 34. The junior also is second for conference save percentage (.895) and is fourth for goals against average (.800).

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS

So far this season, Midwestern State have picked up two wins along with two losses. The Mustangs pair of wins came this past week, winning 4-0 against Northwestern Okla. and a 2-1 victory over East Central.

As a team, MSU are averaging 1.50 goals per game, with 15.8 shots per game. The Mustangs are finding the back of the net on 9.5% of their shots, and of their 27 shots on goal, 22% are goals. Midwestern State are holding teams to just nine shots per game, with half of the shots conceded going on goal. MSU net-minders are making 2.75 saves per game.

Brynn Covington has scored two goals in just two games this season, while four other Mustangs have scored once. Lexi Beck is the main creator, racking up four assists in the opening set of games. Cassidy Savoy is a danger in the box, recording 11 shots so far this season with seven shots on goal. Lexi Jackson has played every game for MSU this season in net, making 11 saves this season, with a 0.611 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS

The Hilltoppers have had a flying start to the season, picking up four wins with just one loss and one draw. In its last game, SEU handled Tampa University 2-1 and beat Colorado State – Pueblo 3-1 before that.

As a group, St. Edward’s cause trouble for opposing teams with 2.33 goals per game on 15.8 shots per game. The Hilltoppers are scoring on 14.7% of their shots, finding 49 shots on goal this season. SEU’s defense has allowed just six goals this season in six games and allowing nine shots per game. St. Edward’s goalkeepers have made 18 saves this season, around three saves per game.

Katie Gay leads the Hilltoppers attack, with three goals on a team high 20 shots, while Julia Spielmann also has three goals in just 191 minutes this season Tristyn Cabello holds a team best two assists this season, with eight others recording one assist. Abby Carlson has started every game for St. Edward’s, allowing five goals this season and making 18 saves.
