During this beautiful time of year we usually take precautions with our loved ones. We buy our children brand new coats, hats, and gloves. We probably do the same for ourselves, but do we take the proper precautions with our pets?

During the colder nights, the ones below 40 degrees are the nights that we need to make sure that our dogs or cats are able to sleep inside or in a warm disclosed place sheltered from the wind.  If  it is not possible to put your pet inside the garage, another option would be to put their dog house  against your home., possibly beside the dryer vent. Another option to consider for outside pets is to put hay inside their tiny house to provide somewhat of an insulated heat.  Several manufacturers have produced dog house heating pads, which could also be utilized for a cat house as well.
We need to remember that when we take our dogs out for walks that their paws are going to get cold just like our would if we were to step in the snow. Pets with thick coats may be fine by themselves; however, those with short fur coats may need a sweater or a jacket.

This is what our highs and lows are going to be looking like, so just keep that in mind. In addition, if you are ever wanting to check the weather in Portales we always have it on display on our front page.
