Sophomore Marcus Parker paced the Eastern New Mexico University men’s outdoor track & field team with first-place finishes in two events at the Lone Star Conference Championships. Kandice Miles and Danee Bustos registered strong performances for the ENMU women’s team.
The ENMU men’s and women’s teams both placed sixth at the championships. Angelo State won both meets, with Texas A&M-Commerce as the men’s runner up, and West Texas A&M as the women’s runner up.
Parker came close to the meet record (10.19) in the 100m dash, with a winning time of 10.22. He also posted a first-place finish in the 200m dash at 20.87.
In the women’s 400m dash, Kandice Miles took second place with a provisionally qualifying time of 55.75. Danee Bustos placed fourth in the event at 56.02. Bustos also took second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.47, while Miles was fifth at 24.50. Bustos garnered another top-10 finish, and was sixth in the high jump, with a team-record leap of 1.64m.
Lateria Slaughter, Bustos, Maijah Mathis and Miles took second place in the 4x100m relay with a school-record time of 45.93. The time currently ranks fourth in the nation. Brooke Walker, Mason Swanson, Abbey Aultman and Kiana Covington placed fifth in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:58.43.
Ezra Bagwell returrned from the decathlon and joined Parker, Travonne Armstead, and Kamal Cass to place fourth in the men’s 4x100m relay with a time of 41.34.
Zhane Gurule finished eighth in the women’s long jump, with a distance of 5.33m. Sierra Quinones placed sixth in the women’s 800m run at 2:24.15 and eighth in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:59.69.
Kenneth Lloyd was second in the men’s high jump, with a leap of 2.14m, which ranks sixth in the nation. Ivar Moinat placed third in the men’s 800m with a time of 1:52.24. Shane Walsh took eighth in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:00.98. Clarence Cowart took 10th in the javelin with a season-best throw of 45.57m.
