The Eastern New Mexico University men’s basketball team signed Zach Parker this past week in part of National Signing Day. The guard joins the Greyhounds after playing at Mississippi Gulf Coast in Perkinston, Miss.
“Zach comes from a very physical and athletic junior college region,” ENMU Head Coach Tres Segler said. “I believe that his ability to score the basketball in multiple ways will add a huge boost to our team’s ability to outscore Lone Stat opponents. The Lone Star contains some of the best defensive coaches and programs in all of Division II, and I believe that Zach’s shooting percentages and abilities will give defenses trouble. He forces a defense to respect his scoring abilities at all times, and that will allow our entire offensive concept to work correctly. In the past ten years in the Lone Star Conference, the champions have always possessed great shooters. We believe that Zach will come into our program and become another one of our threats from beyond the arch. He comes from a great family that is extremely excited about his signing with the Greyhounds. He wants to become a coach after he graduates, and we are excited to watch his career unfold here at ENMU.”
Last season at MGCCC, Parker produced 17 points/game, shooting at a 45% clip from the field, while averaging almost four boards and three dimes in 25 games, earning All-Region accolades. At Biloxi High School, the two-time selection to the Sun Herald’s All-South Mississippi Basketball Team averaged 17.6 points, 1.1 assists and 1.0 rebounds/game.
The Greyhounds return six players from last season’s 13-15 squad. Head Coach Tres Segler led the Green and Silver to the most Lone Star Conference wins as a first-year head coach during the 2016-17 campaign. Additionally, Segler’s Hounds had the third-most wins under a first-year head coach.
