COMMERCE, TEXAS — The Eastern New Mexico University outdoor track & field team closed competition at the Lone Star Conference championships with several strong performances. The Greyhounds combined to post eight first-place finishes on the final day of the event, with both the men’s and women’s teams posting fifth-place finishes. Marcus Parker registered three first-place finishes for the day, while Melina Gryschka notched her second and third top finishes of the meet.
Parker won the league championships in both the 100m (10.43) and 200m sprints, with a facility record time of 20.77 in the 200m. He also ran the third leg of the 4x100m relay with Jacques Hall, Avery Rasher, and Julian Coronado to win the event with a time of 39.72, to automatically qualify for the National Championships.
After she won the 3,000m steeplechase yesterday, Gryschka added the 1,500m and 5,000m runs to her collection of championship performances for the weekend. She posted a time of 4:34.10 in the 1,500m, and completed the 5,000m in 17:49.61.
Kenneth Lloyd won the men’s high jump with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 6′-9.75″. Omer Almog finished first in the 1,500m run with a time of 3:52.30, and took third in the 5,000m run. Alexis Aguirre posted the top women’s javelin toss of the championship meet, with a distance of 143′-02″, to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Augustus Swanson was the runner-up in the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 52.63. Ilia Eligulachvili crossed the finish line third at 52.88
. Rasher placed third in the 400m dash, while Coronado was seventh in the 200m dash.
Mason Swanson took second in the conference in the 800m run with a time of 2:13.89. Shelby Jones placed third in the javelin with a throw of 132′-0″.
The Eastern New Mexico University outdoor track & field teams will return to action on Sunday, May 14th, for the West Texas A&M Last Chance Meet.
