Funeral services for Page Short, Jr., 65, of Portales will be held at 11:00 AM, Wed., July 13, 2022 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Pete Jaramillo officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with A. J. Short, Martin Baros Short, Tommy Gauna, Kevin Madina, Homer Hernandez and Dickie Pena serving as pallbearers.
Page Short, Jr. was born Aug. 30, 1956 in Colorado Springs, CO to the home of Martha Vivian (Lucero) and Page Short, and died at his home in Portales on July 5, 2022. Page came to Portales to live with his grandparents, Anita and Cayetano Lucero. He was showered with love in their home through all of his childhood and teen years. He was raised going to church with all of his family. Page began working in local grocery stores at a very early age, starting at the bottom and working his way up to management positions. Later he worked in the Physical Plant at ENMU for eight years. For another eight years he was employed as a purchasing agent at Abangoa Ethanol Plant. In the late 1990’s he established Short and Sons Construction, which he operated for several years. Page was very talented, and could build or fix almost anything. He passed his talents on to his sons and even his grandsons. Among the projects he was involved in was the painting of the interior of Wheeler Mortuary.
On Jan. 21, 1978 in Portales, he was married to Kaila Nixon. They had three sons. He was a devoted father and later a loving grandfather. Page had a special affinity for children. Recently he had developed a very special relationship with his little cousin Iris who he called “Princess”. Page was a friendly man, and was known throughout the community.
He is survived by his three sons and a daughter-in-law, Josh and Susanna Short, Lucas Short and Micah Short all of Portales; 5 grandchildren, Angel Loya, Adrian Short, Martin Barros Short, Isabella Short and Musiq Short; three great-grandchildren, Aubri Loya, Xavier Barros and Gianna Barros; his mother, Martha Sisneros of Amarillo, TX; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Luis Sisneros and Rick and Donna Sisneros all of Amarillo; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Julie and Kevin Madina of McKinney, TX and Naomi Sisneros of Amarillo; as well as a very special “Aunt/Sister,” Josie Villanueva of Portales; an uncle, David Lucero of Pflugerville, TX; three other aunts, Priscilla Pena and Dora Tafoya both of Portales and Carmen Haines of Moncks Corner, SC; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Page Short; his grandparents, Anita and Cayetano Lucero; a brother, Daniel Sisneros; and three uncles, C. D. Lucero, Quernio Lucero and Florentino Lucero.
