Outstanding Effort On The Glass Carries Women’s Basketball To Emphatic Win Over UT Permian Basin

Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball defeated UT Permian Basin 66-43 Thursday night, its biggest margin of victory this season in a well-deserved team win.

The Hounds dominated on the glass from the opening tip, out-rebounding the Falcons 59-29 for an astounding +30 rebounding margin. Eastern’s 59 boards mark the most by any Lone Star Conference team this season and is tied for fifth in the program’s single-game record book.

Post players Alivia Lewis and Jasmine Williams showed why they are one of the best frontcourt pairings in the conference as each recorded a double-double. Lewis finished with a game high 14 points and 13 rebounds while also dishing out three assists, swiping two steals and blocking two shots. Williams recorded ten points to go along with 11 rebounds on an extremely efficient 5-for-6 shooting night. The pair is now tied for the league lead with seven double-doubles apiece.

The Green and Silver utilized excellent ball movement to create easy scoring chances and finished with 16 assists as a team. Pacing the way was point guard Zamorye Cox who had eight assists while also contributing 13 points, including three three-pointers.

Cox helped the Hounds get on the right track as she recorded three of her assists in the first three possessions of the game. A layup from Williams followed by a three-pointer from guard Natalie Stice before a jumper from Lewis capped off an early 7-0 run from the High Plains squad to begin the game.

Eastern took control of the contest from their and never looked back as the Falcons were held to 12 points or less in all four quarters. The Hounds aggressive defense harassed UTPB for all 40 minutes of regulation, limiting the Falcons to a 27.7 team shooting percentage.

After falling behind 23-10 at the end of the first quarter Permian Basin tried to resort to the three-pointer to get themselves back in the game. The Hounds did an excellent job of closing out on the opposing shooters and made it nearly impossible to connect on long range attempts as the Falcons shot just 2-for-24 from beyond the arch.

Earning their third consecutive victory, the Greyhounds push their record to 14-5 overall (8-5 LSC) as ENMU avenges a 71-63 road loss to the Falcons earlier this season.

Eastern will wrap-up its homestand on Saturday as it hosts cross-state rival Western New Mexico. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside Greyhound Arena.
