PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands will not compete in a football contest originally scheduled for Sept. 3rd inside Greyhound Stadium.

The decision was mutually agreed upon as New Mexico Highlands worked to eliminate games from their 2020 schedule. The cancellation of the week one game will give Eastern New Mexico football 10 regular season contests, the maximum number of contests allotted for Division II football by the NCAA in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Hounds will now kickoff the season on Sept. 12th in Alamosa, Colo. against RMAC opponent Adams State. Eastern New Mexico will maintain the rest of the 10 games on the 2020 schedule as previously announced, giving the Greyhounds five scheduled home and away games throughout the season.

The two sides have not officially agreed to reschedule the game, but will look to do so in the near future to reignite the in-state rivalry between the two programs.
