Juanita Montano Obituary
The Rosary for Juanita Montano, 90, of Portales, will be recited at 9:00 AM, Fri., Dec. 27, 2024 at St. Helen Catholic Church, and will be followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM with Fr. Francisco Carbajal as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Michael Lovato, Arthur Lovato, Jon Harvey, Mike Lovato and K. C. Fitzwater serving as pallbearers.
Juanita Montano was born April 25, 1934 in Encino, NM to the home of Marina (Apodaca) and Samuel Garcia, and died Dec. 20, 2024 in Portales. Mrs. Montano lived in Encino during her childhood, but later came to Portales. It was in Portales on May 27, 1950 that she was married to Solomon Montano. Following the death of their mother, she and Solomon raised her younger siblings. For several years she was employed at the Casing Plant. Later she kept house for several different local families, and even kept their children at times. She enjoyed sewing and oil painting. Mrs. Montano was a faithful and active member of St. Helen Catholic Church where she volunteered for various activities, and especially helped with funeral dinners. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters.
She is survived by one granddaughter. April Harvey and her husband, Jon of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Anneliese and Isabella Harvey; and a brother and sister-in-law, Savio and Julie Garcia of El Paso, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Juan and Pete Garcia, three sisters, Priscilla Lovato, Arabella Pino and Corine Garcia; a son, Andrew Jaramillo and a daughter, Virginia Jaramillo and by her husband, Solomon who died Dec. 9, 1991.
