Graveside services for Wanda Wooley, 82, of Portales, will be at 2:00 PM, Fri, Feb. 2, 2018 in the Portales Cemetery with Scott P. Reeves officiating, assisted by Randy Rankin. Wanda Elayne Wooley was born Oct. 22, 1935 in Crofton, KY to the home of Iris (Croft) and Laith Cranor, and died early Tues. morning, Jan. 30, 2018 in Portales, NM. Wanda grew up in Crofton where she graduated from high school. Following high school, she studied nursing at Murray State University in Hopkinsville, KY and graduated in 1958 as a Registered Nurse. A mutual friend introduced her to a member of the USAF, John “Junior” Wooley, who was stationed nearby at Fort Campbell. They were married in Hopkinsville on Aug. 1, 1958. Following Mr. Wooley’s discharge, they came to Portales in early 1959, and Portales remained her home for the rest of her life.
She worked in labor and delivery at Roosevelt General Hospital for a short time till her son, Dale was born. For the next several years she remained at home to care for him. In 1970, she went to work at the Cannon Air Force Base hospital where she worked in labor and delivery until her retirement in 1994. Wanda loved to go to garage sales to find bargains. She was an avid reader, especially of John Grisham novels. Junior always had a big garden, and Wanda enjoyed canning the produce to have for later.
She was a very gregarious lady, and always enjoyed visiting with her friends. She was a member the Baptist church, and also belonged to the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Wanda is survived by her son, Dale Wooley of Hobbs; her daughter, Liz Wooley of Portales; a brother, Dennis Cranor of Crofton, KY; and two sisters, Ann Meredith of Crofton, KY and Ruby Cranor of Hopkinsville, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Don and Wayne Cranor and by her beloved husband, Junior who died Feb. 7, 2017.
