Memorial services for Vern Lee Stockard,69, of Portales, will be held at 3:00 PM, Fri., July 14, 2017 in the Central Christian Church Fellowship Hall.
Vern was born in Portales, NM on June 12, 1948 to the home of Harold and Toynette Stockard, and died June 28, 2017 in Portales. He graduated from Portales High School in 1967. He then joined the New Mexico National Guard, where he served until 1977. He had a variety of jobs, including farming, carpentry, auto repair and most recently retired from Super Save where he worked in the meat department. Vern enjoyed hunting with family and friends, and tending to his garden every summer.
Vern is survived by Cecilia Duran of Portales, NM; three daughters, Melissa Stockard and Dan Sexton of Chandler, AZ, Janene and Nathan Glidden of Mesa, AZ and Geleah and Chris Sharp of Lubbock, TX; one grandson, Quentin Lind of Mesa, AZ; four sisters, Evelyn and Wayne Isbell of Dallas, TX, Henrietta and Tom Simcik of Arvada, CO, Patsy and Randy Hisey of Aztec, NM and Rhonda and Ramon Garcia of Pueblo, CO; his former wife, Fern Stockard of Portales, NM; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Toynette Stockard; and three brothers, Marvin Stockard, Jimmy Stockard and Floyd Stockard.
