Graveside services for Theressa Wood, 92, of Portales, will be at 2:00 PM, Fri., Sept. 1, 2017 in the Floyd Cemetery with Pastor Michael Gilcrest officiating.
Theressa Dorothy Wood was born Jan. 4, 1925 in Walters, OK to the home of Stella Floyd (Brady) and Owen Homer Kent and died at her home on Aug. 29, 2017. On Mar 19, 1949 in Portales, she was married to James Weaver Wood. The couple had four sons, and also adopted a son and a daughter. In 1950, they moved to Downey, CA, and returned in 1973. Theressa always enjoyed being outdoors, and was particularly bonded with her various animals. She was still breaking horses well into her 60’s. Mrs. Wood was also an avid gardener.
She is survived by three sons, Larry and Jeff Wood of Portales and Doug Wood of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles and Bill and her adopted daughter, Debbie; two brothers, Bud and Leon Kent, five sisters, Iva, Thelma and Jean as well as two that died as infants, and by her husband, Jimmy, who died July 2, 2003 after more than 54 years of marriage.
