Funeral services for Rosa Loya, 60, of Portales will be at 2:00 PM, Sat. Mar. 17, 2018 at Trinity Assembly of God Church in Portales with Pastor Antonio Arce officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Brandon Rose, Jr., Adrian Short, Abel Loya, IV, Angel Loya, Josh Short and Cristian Hernandez serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be at The Church of the First Born, 1522 N. Main in Portales until 12:00 PM, Sat.

Rosa Loya was born Oct. 27, 1957 in Juarez, Mexico to the home of Maria (Torres) and Guadalupe Mendoza, and died peacefully at her home in Portales on the afternoon of Mar. 14, 2018. She came to Portales in 1975, and on Oct. 27, 1978 in Portales, she was married to Abel Loya. They moved to Hutchinson, KS in 1983, but returned to Portales in 1985. Mrs. Loya became a Christian in the early 1980’s, and served the Lord faithfully for the rest of her life. She was always involved in anything to do with her church, and loved to study her Bible. She was a member of the Church of the Living Christ in Clovis, at the time of her death. Mrs. Loya was a wonderful cook. Among her specialties were her homemade tortillas and her red chili. Spending time with family was her favorite time, especially if it involved her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Abel Loya of the home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Abel Loya, Jr. and his wife, Billie of Hutchinson, KS, Israel Loya of Honolulu, HI and Miguel and Florentina Loya of Portales; and three daughters, Susana and Josh Short of Portales, Marisol and Brandon Rose of Andrews, TX and Raquel and Luis Lugo of Portales; 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Francisco Mendoza of Las Cruces, NM; and four sisters, Celia Hernandez of Portales, Elena Mendoza of Hutchinson, KS, Martha Rodriguez of Clovis and Laura Mendoza of Wichita, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Javier Mendoza and three sisters, Lydia Duran, Elva Alvarez and Raquel Pena.
