The Mass of the Resurrection for Pedro Cantu, Jr., 36, of Portales, will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Tues., Feb. 13, 2018 at St. Helen Catholic Church by Fr. Charles Ugochukwu. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with various family members and friends serving as pallbearers. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM, Mon., Feb. 12, 2018 at St. Helen Catholic Church.
Pedro Cantu, Jr. was born April 21, 1981 in Corpus Christi, TX to the home of Emma and Pedro Cantu, and died as the result of a traffic accident on the evening of Feb. 7, 2018 near Kermit, TX. For several years he lived in Monahans, TX and then moved to Hobbs, NM in 1997. He was a 1999 graduate of Hobbs High School, where he played shortstop for the Hobbs Eagles. As an adult Pedro lived and worked in Eunice and later in Monahans before moving to Portales in Nov. 2017. He worked doing various odd jobs, mowing and working as a handy man. He enjoyed playing ball with his four children and coaching their softball and Little League teams.
He is survived by two sons, Pedro Cantu, III and Andrew Matthew Cantu and two daughters, Kamryn Cantu and Camila Cantu all of Hobbs, NM; his mother and step-father, Emma and Macario Quintana of Portales; and two brothers, Daniel Cantu of Midland, TX and Carlos Quintana of Austin, TX.
