Noel Owen, 87, of Portales, was born Dec. 12, 1929 in Portales to the home of Mabel (Teter) and Douglas Owen and died at his home on Oct. 7, 2017. No services are planned.
Mr. Owen grew up in Portales. On May 10, 1950 in Dolthan, AL he was married to Evelyn Austin. In Feb. of the following year, he was drafted into the US Army, and served during the Korean War. He was wounded during the conflict, and was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
After coming home, he worked for the Culligan Soft Water Service and later for Southern Union Gas Co., before going to work for the U S Postal Service as a mail carrier. He had been retired since 1989. For many years he and his wife enjoyed going to their cabin in Pecos, NM. He also enjoyed playing a variety of musical instruments.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Terri Owen of Farmington, NM; two daughters and son-in-law, Renelda and Bruce Reed of Lovington, NM and Annise Chetelat of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren, Nicholas Chetelat, Joseph Chetelat, Bryony Trousdale and Kim Owen; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Norman and a sister, Verna, as well as by his wife, Evelyn who died Mar. 30, 2013.
