Funeral services for Michael C. Marshall, 65, of Portales, will be at 2:00 PM, Sat. July 29, 2017 at Central Christian Church in Portales, with Don Thomas officiating, assisted by David McVey. All of his children and his grandson, along with his church family will be honorary pallbearers.
Michael Corydon Marshall was born May 5, 1952 in Indianapolis, IN to the home of Margaret (Graham) and Leroy Marshall, and died at his home in Portales, early on the morning of July 23, 2017. Mr. Marshall grew up in Lafayette, IN, and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1971. He had already taken exams to enlist in the Air Force when he received a draft notice to the Army. Rather than be drafted, he proceeded to join the US Air Force, and served for 18 1/2 years before being discharged in May of 1990. At the time of his discharge, he was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base, and so chose to remain in the area. Michael was a 1997 graduate of ENMU, with a Bachelor’s degree is Psychology.
On Oct 19, 1978, while stationed in Germany, he was married to Irene Rochus. The couple had a son and a daughter together before divorcing. He was later married to Patricia Davis. They also had a son and a daughter before divorcing. On Jan. 5, 2002 in Portales, he was married to Vicky Jean Stratton. After their marriage, Michael moved to Portales to make his home. For eleven years, he was in charge of the Post Office at Eastern New Mexico University. For the past year he worked in Inventory Control for the university. He had been retired since June of this year. He was a member of the National Association of College and University Mail Services, and served as President of the Southwest Association of College and University Mail Services. He also belonged to the American Legion.
Michael was a faithful member of Central Christian Church in Portales, and had served the congregation as an elder. He was very active for a number of years in a weekly food distribution known as the Helping Hands Ministry. In addition he served on the church Praise Team. His life revolved mostly around church and his work. However, he did enjoy doing woodworking and remodeling, listening to Gaithers recordings and following the Chicago Bears football team.
He is survived by his wife, Vicky Stratton of Portales; three sons, Timothy Marshall of Clovis, Jonathan Marshall of Denver, CO and Sean Domis of Portales; two daughters, Naomi Marshall of Clovis and Sarah Marshall of Denver, CO; a grandson, Chance Marshall; a brother, Mark Marshall of Indianapolis, IN; a sister, Lois Finch of Indianapolis, IN; and his mother-in-law, Nena Stratton of Portales. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Matthew and two sisters, Lisa and Leslie.
