The Rosary will be recited for Maxine Lucero, 69, of Portales, at 9:00 AM, Tues., Sept. 5, 2017 at St. Helen Catholic Church, to be followed by a Memorial Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM. Fr. Charles Ugochukwu will officiate. Burial of her cremated remains will be in the Portales Cemetery.
Maxine Irene Lucero was born Oct. 10, 1947 in Las Vegas, NM to the home of Vickie (Urioste) and Max Gomez, and died early on the morning of Sept 1, 2017 at Retirement Ranch in Clovis, NM. She and her family came to Portales in the late 1950’s to work in the fields. She attended school in Floyd and later in Portales, and graduated in 1965. Maxine married at an early age, and had five children. She always enjoyed being with them, and actually learned to ride a bicycle along with them. She loved to go fishing and camping. Cleaning and housekeeping was a passion for her. Consequently, for many years, she cleaned houses for others. She was an excellent cook, and also did a lot of crochet work. Maxine was a very outgoing lady that endeared herself to everyone who knew her. She especially loved her grandchildren with all of her heart and soul.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and LaDeana Lucero of Peoria, AZ, Dale and Alva Lucero of Clovis, and Gale and Stephanie Lucero of Peoria, AZ; two daughters and a son-in-law, Louella Gallegos and Kristina and Joseph Dunsworth all of Portales; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Gallegos, Celia and Natasha Lucero, Jonah and Rebekah Lucero, Morgan Shea, and Kyler, Luke and Max Dunsworth; as well as her step-mother, Lucy Gomez of Portales and a sister, Connie (Margarito) Peralez of Clovis. She was preceded in death by her father, Max Gomez and a sister, Carmen Beard.
